Stretching Quarters

The 127 Corridor sale was last weekend.
I wonder how many of you went hunting there.
It seemed like ALL of you were!
While it is always fun to be out with MWH on our every Saturday morning adventure, I have to admit to getting a little bit miffed this time. We've been to this sale before, had lots of fun, enjoyed crazy people sightings, AND even brought home a few treasures.  But this time the dealers either wanted more money for their junk, or maybe I had less money to give for their junk.  I complained about the dealers' laughable prices, and the dealers complained about laughable offers that were being made for their junk.

"Do you know someone offered me a dollar for that?"
(dealer indicating a slice of purple, polished geode)
"Really? Hmmm..."
(me thinking that was probably a generous offer he should've taken)
"Yes, it's just ridiculous! People want something for nothing!"
(dealer waving hands and scoffing all of us greedy, scrimping buyers)
"Must be the economy... ? Maybe they don't know about rocks ... ?"
(hoping to humor him and get him to sell me this --- for a dollar)

I had two pockets full of quarters, and each of us had one dollar bill. We're trying to refrain from using our old friend Jeanie. She just gets us in trouble! So we went to the sale with what cash we had on hand. It must have shown.
I saw a really lovely vintage tablecloth. My disappointment must've shown when the dealer announced it to be a bar-gain for only $20. She then referred me to a basket of $1 handkerchiefs.
Really? I know I had dripped Kona Ice all over my own shirt, but really - I thought that was insulting. Even if she had read me entirely correctly.

So, I had to resort to PhotoBuying.

Love that! Bought it -

Mine! Click -

A pair of these would be perfect for a wedding gift! Snap -
(I hope you click this photo to get a better view of these salt and pepper shaker sets.
"And is it fun? You bet it is!" Check how the man is all smirky. Yeah.)

Our only buy for the day - vintage industrial safety glasses.

Talked the guy down to $3 from $5 for these, and still had enough quarters for nachos! Don't be jealous - you can borrow them anytime!

Old Funnies

On the recent run-away, we made photo-buys of these three old, framed photos. All too funny!

This photo caught the eye of MWH - he cracked up when he saw these brave soldiers lying "like dancing girls" on their sides in the front row. I guess they would be kneeling in a typical group shot, right? But not these men! The clincher - the center two soldiers holding hands and gazing into each other's eyes. Click the photo to get an up-close view of these long-dead soldiers and you might also say -
What is goin' on?
Is it a group joke? Some kind of punishment for this particular troop? Is this photo the second take after the first very serious shot? I wonder...

What an attitude in this sister! You don't usually get to see this level of 'tude in the old photos - she had to be able to hold onto this face for quite a few seconds to get the photo this clear! I'd title this one, "Fed Up!" I wonder, is she on her way home, or on her way out?

I've seen a few bad baby haircuts, but this is the all-time winner. Love how they dressed this poor child ... boy or girl? Notice the button-up shoes and the tiny gold ring. He/she looks cheerful, though, no matter the hairstyle.

PhotoBuys

On our recent Mental Health Day in Lebanon, OH, we moseyed through the shops, enjoying each other's company and browsing among old things. When short on cash, PhotoBuys hold me over. By taking a photo of the things I'd certainly buy if I had loads of $, I feel like I got it in some small way.

Oh, so cool jadite salt and pepper shakers. I really almost bought these. They almost match my kitchen cabinets exactly.
Probably should've bought them - yes...
A ceramic pie bird to 'sing' when the center of the pie is boiling. Oooh, I would love to have him in my kitchen, singing from a blueberry pie right now!
My Grandma had a sewing basket just like this one. I used to spend hours sitting with it, fingering the things inside. Would've loved to have had hers - guess someone else got it. Someday, though, I'm going to really buy one and fill it with my own stuff.
Who can resist cake tins? This one would be just right to carry a 4th of July
super-tall jam cake to a picnic.
We did gift ourselves this for our anniversary, though:
